Michigan Veal Committee

The Michigan Veal Committee was organized in 1984 through Public Act 232 and is composed of five directors appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate, from nominations received from producers. The Director of the Michigan Department of Agriculture serves as an ex-officio member.

Funding:
The 1985 Cattlemen's Beef Promotion and Research Act established a law where one dollar is collected on each head of cattle and calves sold. Fifty cents automatically goes to the Beef Promotion and Research Board and fifty cents is administered by the Michigan Beef Industry Commission for beef and veal programs plus administration.

Functions:
» Maintain the broad cattle and veal industry support of the checkoff
» Receive assessments from producers, enabling the MBIC and MVC to carry out
   objectives, strategies and tactics, outlined in the yearly Marketing Plan
» Monitor the collection of checkoff assessments
» Coordinate the checkoff program for the State of Michigan with the
   Cattlemen's Beef Promotion and Research Board and with the Checkoff
   Division of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association

» Maintain support for beef and veal promotion efforts
» Prioritize use of funds
» Support a state/national coordinated program
» Account for expenditures of producers' dollars
